Announcement No. 1: The 20th Anniversary of the College of International Education, Wenzhou University
The year 2026 marks the 20th anniversary of the founding of the College of International Education (CIE) at Wenzhou University (WZU). We wish to express our sincere gratitude and high respect to leaders at all levels, alumni at home and abroad, international friends, and friends from all walks of life who have long cared for and supported the College.
Two Decades of Dedication, a Mission Unchanged
WZU began enrolling international students in 1998 and established the College of International Cooperation in 2006. In its early years, the College was responsible for international cooperative education programs and the education and management of international students. In 2017, it was renamed the College of International Education (CIE) and has since operated jointly with the Department of International Students Education and Services. Its responsibilities include international student admissions, general education, and daily management.
Over the past 20 years, the College has pursued both “bringing in” and “going global.” It serves the national Belt and Road Initiative and the broader opening-up of education. It has focused on education for international students in China and international Chinese language education. The University now offers a complete range of degree programs for international students at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. It is one of China’s first national bases for international Chinese language education and a host institution for Chinese Government Scholarship students. In 2025, it passed the Ministry of Education’s Quality Certification for Higher Education for International Students in China with a B rating, valid for six years. The project “One Body, Two Wings, Three Integrations: The Wenzhou Model of Regional Higher Education Opening-Up in the New Era” won Second Prize in the Zhejiang Provincial Teaching Achievement Award.
Two Decades of Endeavor, Fruitful Results
The College remains committed to its mission: to bring together outstanding talent from around the world, cultivate global citizens with a deep understanding of Wenzhou, and connect WZU’s talent with the world to help Wenzhou engage globally. It continues to advance talent development, teaching reform, cultural exchange, and international cooperation.
To date, the College has educated more than 4,500 Chinese and international students. Its alumni include Charles Dwamena, former Deputy Ambassador of Ghana to China, and other representatives who know China and are friendly to China. The College has been approved as one of the first batch of Master Teacher Studios for Chinese National Conditions Education for International Students in Zhejiang Province and has developed the cultural brand “Journey to the East—Tales of WZU International Students.” Original performances by international students have appeared on platforms such as “Experience China” and “Dream Journey in Zhejiang,” and have won awards in national competitions including the China International “Internet+” College Students’ Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition and the “Challenge Cup.” The College hosts the only HSK test center in southern Zhejiang and is authorized to offer a master’s degree program in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (TCSOL). TCSOL is one of the three main areas of the University’s National Language Promotion Base. Over the past five years, faculty members have received more than 20 research grants at or above the provincial and ministerial levels.
The College has partnered with Tsingshan Holding Group to establish the “WZU-Tsingshan Class,” which uses a “Chinese + Professional” model to provide customized training for interdisciplinary international talents and support the high-quality overseas growth of Chinese enterprises. The WZU Indonesia Tsingshan Silk Road School has been selected as a provincial-level Belt and Road “Silk Road School.” The College has also launched several Sino-foreign cooperative education programs, developed joint training arrangements with universities in multiple countries, and established overseas internship and practice bases, steadily expanding international educational exchange and cooperation.
Looking Ahead, a Shared New Journey
As it enters its third decade, the College will remain committed to its fundamental mission of fostering virtue through education. It will continue to improve the quality and impact of education for international students in China, strengthen its distinctive strengths in international Chinese language education, and contribute to China’s educational opening-up and mutual learning among civilizations.
On November 6-8, 2026, the College will host a series of 20th-anniversary events, including achievement exhibitions, academic seminars, alumni gatherings, and Chinese and international cultural performances. These events will review the College’s history, bring together friends and partners, and chart a shared course for the future.
We warmly invite alumni at home and abroad and friends from all walks of life to join us at WZU. Let us renew old ties, promote common development, and write the next chapter together.
This announcement is hereby issued for the information of all concerned.
